There are also many easy and moderate hikes with beautiful scenery close by like the Greens Creek, Lost Lake and Waterdog Lakes. Ask our staff for some recommendations.
The Salida trail system is only half a mile away and will provide miles of scenic running, bicycling, rollerblading, and dog walking.
Originally opened in 1926, the 9 hole Salida Golf Club offers fairways lined with pine, cottonwood and Russian olive trees at 7,000 feet above sea level. The greens are small and fast and the usual pace of play is 2 hours for 9 holes.
Just a short drive from Salida is the 9 hole Collegiate Peaks Golf Course , offering breathtakingly beautiful views of the Collegiate Peaks Mountain Range. This golf course features some water hazards as it follows Cottonwood Creek.
In the town of Leadville, you will find the 9 hole Mount Massive Golf Course. Originally established in 1939, Mt. Massive Golf Course is located at 9,640 feet above sea level, making it the highest golf course in America. Sitting at the base of the two highest peaks in Colorado, this golf course offers incredible views.

Four Wheel Driving
There is some great four-wheel driving to be had in the area, offering fantastic high-altitude scenic views. Salida is located on the Trans America Trail, an off-road coast-to-coast motorcycle trail. You can rent ATV’s from and get advice at All Seasons Rental, and you can visit the Trans America Trail website for more information on the trail.
Take scenic rides in the High Country through sage meadows, aspen glens and evergreen forests. Mt. Princeton Riding Stables provides a fantastic riding experience. It's also a great way to see the fall colors.
